Chiefs "Nicely Determined" Ahead of Lions Clash

19th February 2010 09:38AM

The Chiefs are now in the Highveld (the high plateau region of inland South Africa), having flown up to Johannesburg early this morning (NZ time).

Foster explained it is now a tried and true formula for visiting teams to fly up to the highveld the day before a game.

When asked to explain the mood of the Chiefs squad this week Foster responded: "We are nicely determined. The Sharks victory was an important win and it could have gone either way. We chose the right tactics but there was a fine line between winning and losing. It was certainly nice to start on the road with the victory."

Latest weather forecasts show that the Chiefs can expect fine conditions for the match at Coca Cola Park. However, Foster was quick to explain that the weather conditions in South Africa at this time in the year are very changeable.

He said the Chiefs touring squad were treated to an incredible lightning and thunder show in Durban in the middle of the week.

"The rain was so heavy that it flooded the floor in the foyer of our hotel."

Foster explained the conditions on the night of the match will certainly determine the team's strategy.

Last weekend the Chiefs played in hot, humid and wet conditions throughout the Sharks encounter.
Foster expects another tough battle when the Chiefs take on the Lions.

"It's an ominous sort of ground, they have a new coach, there's a lot of youth in their team ... they are hard to predict. But this is a great opportunity for us."
