The Chiefs went down 18-23 to the Reds at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton tonight in round four of the Rebel Sport Super 14.

The Chiefs came away with a bonus point from the game. In warm, fine conditions the Chiefs led the Reds 18-13 at half-time.

In the first 10 minutes the Chiefs had clocked up two tries to wingers Sitiveni Sivivatu and Lelia Masaga. This was later backed up with a try by front rower Sona Taumalolo in the corner. The unconverted tries saw the Chiefs go out to a 15-point lead.

In the 26th minute the Reds fought back with a try to Will Chambers. This was converted by Quade Cooper who then went onto kick two more penalties.

Chiefs first five-eighth Stephen Donald kicked a penalty before half-time.

In the second half the Chiefs were unable to get on the scoreboard, however the Reds managed a penalty, a runaway try to Luke Morahan and a conversion to Cooper.

Chiefs coach Ian Foster said post match: "we did some nice work early on, but then we lost our concentration in core areas. Perhaps our energy levels were down a bit but we were not clinical enough to take it."

Around 13,500 fans turned up to the match. Chiefs fans are able to enjoy more home grown rugby next Friday night when the Chiefs take on the Crusaders at Waikato Stadium on 12 March.
