The 2009 Chiefs were named Team of the Year at the recent 2009 Perry Foundation Waikato Regional Sports Awards in Hamilton.   

The award recognised the Chiefs' stellar 2009 season which culminated in them making the Rebel Sport Super 14 final for the first time in the franchise's history. 

Meanwhile, Chiefs coach Ian Foster was a finalist in the Coach of the Year category, and Mils Muliaina was a finalist in the Sportsman of the Year Award.
