Chiefs Settled in South Africa

Chiefs coach Ian Foster reports that his squad travelled well and the players are now enjoying good training days in Durban as they prepare for this weekend's clash against the Sharks.

He said with round one upon the Chiefs "it is time to roll up our sleeves and get stuck into what is a massive week."

Foster said to play well and to get some points on the table in the opening rounds is the obvious goal for the Chiefs.

"It is important we build our game and play the type of rugby we want to play."

He adds the latter are key to the way a team builds confidence in a campaign.

Foster said from South Africa last night that Callum Bruce, who strained his knee following last Friday's preseason hit out against the Hurricanes, is tracking well.

"In fact Callum is better than expected after the trip." A decision on whether Bruce will be in contention for the weekend's match will be decided in the next two days.

Captain Sione Lauaki developed an absess on his arm following a cut in last Friday's game. But Foster said the absess is looking much better each day.

With the Chiefs first competition game only days away now Foster reflected on the preseason saying the Chiefs have been "well prepared."

"We made sure we didn't overplay too many people knowing that we were going into three weeks of pretty hot conditions."

Foster believes the Chiefs are more advanced with their set piece aspect of their game than this time last year.

The Chiefs take on the Sharks in Durban on Sunday 14 February at 6.10am (NZ time). The game is broadcast live in New Zealand on SKY Sport 1.
