White Back in the Frame

It's been one year, eight months and 27 days between Rebel Sport Super 14 games for Chiefs prop Nathan White.

At the weekend White proudly ran out in the number three jersey for the Chiefs against the Sharks in Durban. Ironically the last game he'd played prior to his forced break away from rugby due to an on-going back injury was on May 17, 2008 against the Sharks in Durban.

The 2008 occasion was one to forget with the Chiefs going down 25-47; but the 2010 fixture was one to remember with the Chiefs winning 19-18 - their first round one win in six years, and the first win against the Sharks for the same period.

"It was very pleasing to get back into rugby, and again in Durban," said White from South Africa this week.

In between Super 14 matches the 28-year-old had to endure two surgeries on his back and persist with a thorough and lengthy rehabilitation to get back on track to play front row footy at Super 14 level.

When asked how his back held up in the recent win over the Sharks White responded: "my back is bloody good. It's like I'm a 20-year-old again."

After clocking up his 21st game for the Chiefs at the weekend, White is focused on the Chiefs' next task at hand - taking on the Lions in Johannesburg.

White said the forwards knew they had to "front up" against the Sharks last week and praised the efforts of all his teammates in the match.

"We have a tough week ahead. If we can find consistency with our scrum then that is a good platform....the team can benefit greatly from that."

The Lions have named their team to take on the Chiefs in Durban this Saturday 20 February in Johannesburg. Kick off is 7.00am NZ time.
