Back for his second consecutive season with the Chiefs, Bourke is a powerful and mobile number eight. Bourke enjoyed good form as captain of his provincial side Bay of Plenty in 2009. In 2005 he made his Super Rugby debut with the Highlanders. In 2006 he spent a year playing rugby in Italy, while in 2007 and 2008 Bourke was part of the Chiefs Wider Training Group.
