New to Super 14, Hoeata is a blindside flanker who can also play at lock. He is a physical and abrasive player. Hoeata has Chiefs region connections – he is originally from Mt Maunganui. He is drafted into the Chiefs from his province Taranaki, where in 2009 he played in the unfamiliar role of number eight. In 2008 a knee injury put him out of rugby for a year.
