Neil Barnes

Barnes has been a key cog in the wheel at the Gallagher Chiefs. The Taranaki dairy farmer brings a wealth of coaching experience having spent seven years away including two Rugby World Cup campaigns as the Canadian Maples forwards coach.

In 2016 Barnes returned home to take up the Gallagher Chiefs assistant coach role. Since his return he has continued to add to his coaching resume completing his third Rugby World Cup campaign, this time with Fiji as their assistant coach.

Barnes was the forwards coach for the 2021 Gallagher Chiefs campaign and was part of the coaching staff that took the team to the 2021 Sky Super Rugby Aotearoa Grand Final

In 2021 it was announced that Barnes would be taking up the Head Coaching role at Taranaki Rugby for their 2021 NPC season.
