Gallagher Chiefs all-time top point scorer, Damian McKenzie, began his playing career representing the New Zealand Under-20 during the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship.

McKenzie made his Investec Super Rugby debut for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2015. After a memorable 2016 Super Rugby season he was called into the All Blacks for the June Internationals and debuted off the bench against Argentina.

McKenzie has also represented the Māori All Blacks from 2015 to 2017.

A player with many strings to his bow, McKenzie originally specialised at first five-eighth but is also known for his outstanding ability in the fifteen jersey.

McKenzie suffered a season-ending knee injury while playing Super Rugby for the Chiefs in 2019 and missed out on selection for the 2019 Rugby World Cup. He returned for the Chiefs in 2020 and was later renamed in the All Blacks in 2020.

After a stint in Japan with the Tokyo Sungoliath for the 2022 season, McKenzie returned to the Gallagher Chiefs to support the side to an appearance in the Super Rugby Pacific Final. He was later named in the 2023 All Blacks squad to contest the Rugby World Cup in France.
