Powerful hooker Tyrone Thompson joined the Gallagher Chiefs in 2022 and debuted early that season against Moana Pasifika, where he also scored a try.
Thompson completed his schooling in Hawke’s Bay before heading to Wellington where he made his provincial debut in 2020 against Waikato. In 2022 he made the shift home to sign with the Hawke's Bay Magpies for the Bunnings NPC competition.
The same year he was named in the Māori All Blacks side that faced Ireland.
In 2023, Thompson displayed his power and pace through his increased game time with the Gallagher Chiefs in DHL Super Rugby Pacific. His form earnt him selection for the All Blacks XV tour to Japan for the Lipovitan-D Challenge Cup.
Thompson's twin brother Leo is also a successful athlete playing for the Newcastle Knights in the NRL.
