Bay of Plenty Volcanix win Chiefs Country Cup
Waikato and Bay of Plenty took to the field in a tightly contested battle at FMG Stadium Waikato on Saturday 21 September in round four of the 2019 Farah Palmer Cup.
Waikato returning from their bye week, were on the hunt for their second win of the season while the visitors were looking to secure their first win of their campaign.
It was clear the Bay of Plenty Volcanix were hungry for a win leading 12-8 at the break. There was no shortage of tries from either side with Waikato dotting down twice and the visitors crossing four times across the duration of the match.
The Bay of Plenty Volcanix continued to apply pressure for the full 80 minutes and were rewarded securing themselves a 26-21 bonus point victory over their neighbouring rivals Waikato and lifted the Chiefs Country Cup for the first time.
The Bay of Plenty Volcanix have now locked up the Chiefs Country Cup in the trophy cabinet for 2019, alongside the men’s Chiefs Country Cup the Bay of Plenty Steamers also hold.
