Taranaki born Lachlan Boshier has stamped his mark in the early stages of the 2020 Investec Super Rugby competition for the Gallagher Chiefs.

Boshier first debuted for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2016 against the Sharks, the 25-year-old is now closing in on 50 games for the team four years later. His outstanding work rate and physicality has been a key contributor in the Gallagher Chiefs current success and back to back wins over the Blues and Crusaders.

A humble Boshier said the current success of the Gallagher Chiefs is attributed to the work rate and determination displayed by the team.

“The boys are ticking along nicely; we are just getting stuck into our work. Our trainings are intense, and we are shifting that intensity onto the field. As a unit there are still a few things to work on but we are beginning to make that shift.”

Gallagher Chiefs Forwards Coach Neil Barnes said Boshier’s work rate is second to none.

“While everyone will have noticed of late that Lachlan is incredibly strong over the ball, his point of difference is how well rounded his game is. He is a seven that has the skill sets to also play six. On top of his ability over the ball and high work rate, he is very instinctive with his running lines, to be in support of the ball carrier which often sees him linking with line breaks. He is very physical at the breakdown when cleaning out and is a dominant defender. On top of all that he is a very good lineout forward, which when you combine all that makes him an absolute asset to the Gallagher Chiefs, and a pleasure to watch.”

Taranaki born Boshier has come through the ranks at New Plymouth Boys High School 1st XV from 2010-2012, a team he also captained. Adding to his schoolboy rugby credentials, Boshier was a New Zealand Under 20s representative in 2014. Boshier was called in as an injury replacement in 2016 making his Investec Super Rugby against the Sharks, he was named in the Gallagher Chiefs squad the following season.

The Gallagher Chiefs fly to Japan this week to take on the Sunwolves at 4.45pm (NZT) on Saturday 15 February. They will return home to Hamilton the following week to take on the Brumbies on Saturday 22 February. Grab your tickets from: www.chiefs.co.nz/game-tickets
