CEO Update - COVID-19 & Investec Super Rugby

Kia ora loyal supporters,

Firstly, thank you all for the overwhelming support for our Club during this unfamiliar situation for the organisation, our community and sport as a whole. We understand that everyone in our wider community is being affected by this situation and we want to emphasise that we as an organisation remain fully committed to our members, sponsors, stakeholders, shareholders, staff, players and fans.

“Chiefs Mana” for our Club is being kaitiaki of our jersey, legacy and sacred land so we embrace the role we play in supporting our communities and fans in the good and bad times. The Chiefs Rugby Club has a proud 25 year history, which you all are a significant part of and we are committed to ensuring our legacy can continue. We look forward to working together to continue to be a Club that unites our communities, invokes a sense of pride in our supporters and strives for excellence in performance both on and off the field.

Current Situation for the Super Rugby Competition
We are working closely with New Zealand Rugby and the other four Investec Super Rugby clubs to assess our options. With the safety of our people at the centre of our planning, we share a collective will to get our players back on the field and to provide meaningful rugby for players, members, fans, sponsors, investors, commercial partners and other stakeholders. We will advise everyone once the relevant parties have agreed on the way forward.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Health, safety and wellbeing has always been incredibly important to our organisation. This week our Gallagher Chiefs team along with all High Performance staff are on a bye week along with a number of our commercial team who are all taking the opportunity to recharge. We have set up easy and direct communication with our staff, players and team management to keep them updated with this evolving situation.

We have stepped up our cleaning and hygiene protocols at Chiefs HQ with steam cleaning, hand sanitisers for all staff, team management and players. We have temporarily closed the facility to all external parties as part of our minimisation strategy.

As a community, it is important we stay connected so if you wish to get in touch please do not hesitate to call or email [email protected] and we will endeavour to answer your questions swiftly.

Kia kaha whanau and thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,
Michael Collins
Chiefs Rugby Club CEO
