Randle, Hill extend coaching contracts with Gallagher Chiefs
The Chiefs Rugby Club today announced that Roger Randle and David Hill will continue in their coaching roles to the end of 2026.
Their contract extensions align with that of head coach Clayton McMillan who confirmed earlier in the season that he would be remaining with the Gallagher Chiefs for another three years.
Chiefs Rugby Club CEO Simon Graafhuis said: "We believe that consistency and continuity are keys for the on-going success of the Chiefs Rugby Club, so we are delighted to have the core of our coaching group in place for the next few years.
"It is great to be able to secure David and Roger for an extended term. They are both quality people, and great coaches in their own right.
"It is pretty unique to have coaches that have such deep connection to the club and community, with both David and Roger starting their journey with the Chiefs Rugby Club as players."
Randle and Hill played alongside each other at the Chiefs from 2001-2003, as well as for the All Blacks in the early 2000s. Randle was a speedy winger, also playing for the All Black Sevens, and Hill a quality first-five and goal kicker.
Randle began as the assistant backs coach for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2018, later shifting into the attack coach role. He has over 10 years of coaching experience, including assistant coaching positions for Waikato and the Māori All Blacks.
Randle said: "I feel very blessed and privileged to have the opportunity to stay on with the Gallagher Chiefs. It’s a team and region my whānau and I have a real love and passion for.
"We have an outstanding management, coaching and playing group that work incredibly hard and are driven to be world-class every day, so I’m excited for what’s possible over the next three years."
Formerly an assistant coach for Bay of Plenty and New Zealand Under 20s, in 2020 Hill returned to the Chiefs Rugby Club as an assistant coach. Hill has also been a part of the All Blacks coaching group as a kicking specialist, and will continue this role for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
“I am delighted to be staying on with the Gallagher Chiefs," said Hill. "It's a team that I care deeply about, and a team that I believe is heading in the right direction both on and off the grass.
"It’s a pleasure to come into Chiefs HQ every day, working alongside players and staff who are committed to putting the team first, willing to help each other, and willing to work hard.
“We have made some great progress over the past few seasons and some outstanding talent in the region. So I’m excited to be part of the next couple of years, helping the club achieve our goals."
The full Gallagher Chiefs coaching team for 2024 will be confirmed at the conclusion of the current DHL Super Rugby Pacific season.
The Gallagher Chiefs will face the Queensland Reds this weekend at FMG Stadium Waikato for the DHL Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinals.
