The Waitomo Chiefs Women will be wearing the limited-edition Women in Rugby jersey.

The jersey acknowledges the thousands of females both young and old, who play and support rugby.

The pink and purple tinge commemorates wahine of all levels who play and support rugby, along with connecting to the Waitomo Chiefs training jersey colours to acknowledge the importance of preparation.

The black colouring in the jersey is to acknowledge the female rugby players from the Chiefs Region who have represented New Zealand at an international level.

The triangular arrow patterns on the jersey speak to the significance of always moving forward, both on the rugby field and in the promotion of females both playing and supporting rugby.

Gallagher Chiefs Co-Captain Sam Cane presented the Waitomo Chiefs the jersey on Sunday.

"The most important part of this jersey for me is the logo. Everyone who is watching will take immense pride in seeing you girls pull on the jersey and going out there for the very first time. Just know you've got my backing and we can't wait to see it."

The jersey was worn by the Gallagher Chiefs when they played the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin last year.
