The WaterBoy announced as Chiefs Rugby official community partner
The Chiefs Rugby Club have announced today that The WaterBoy will join Variety – the Children’s Charity as the Club’s official community partners.
The two-year partnership will see the Chiefs Rugby Club execute experiences and campaigns for the kids within the WaterBoy programme and to raise awareness of the work The WaterBoy does in our community.
Chiefs Rugby Club Chief Executive Officer Michael Collins said: “It is great to be able to announce The WaterBoy as our official community partner for 2020 and 2021.”
“The WaterBoy is invested in providing opportunities for disadvantaged youth to participate in sport. The Chiefs Rugby Club are privileged to be able to assist The WaterBoy in achieving this. We have the tools and resources to provide rugby rich experiences and inspire Kiwi kids to get into sport,” Collins said.
The WaterBoy is a local charitable organisation, that helps break down barriers to give opportunities for disadvantaged youth to participate in sport.
In 2019 the Chiefs Rugby Club teamed up with The WaterBoy and Winger Hamilton to coordinate a ‘boot drive’, where pre-loved or new sporting equipment was collected at both Winger Hamilton base and a home match. This equipmnent was then distributed locally to those in need by The WaterBoy. Similar initiatives are being planned for the two-year agreement.
Thomas Nabbs Founder of The WaterBoy said: “The values, work ethic, community spirit, and humility displayed by the Chiefs Rugby Club are in alignment with The WaterBoy and what we want for our recipients and community, so this partnership is a good fit for us and fills us with excitement.”
The WaterBoy:
The WaterBoy works to break down barriers to give opportunities for disadvantaged youth to participate in sport. They believe that sport is an integral part of being a kiwi kid and growing up in New Zealand. The personal development and health benefits received from sport are second to none, and the WaterBoy organisation believe that every kiwi should have the opportunity to play sport.
The WaterBoy is about creating stronger people, not necessarily champions, so they focus their support on participation at a community level. But, with the help of professional athletes who strive to be champions, The WaterBoy can create stronger dreams, greater heroes, higher aspirations, and stronger communities through breaking down barriers and showing a pathway to participation and what's possible through sport.
