Who is your Gallagher Chiefs MVP?

With the Investec Super Rugby season currently suspended, we are asking the fans to vote for the MVPs of 2020 so far.

Four players have been selected from each team and now it is over to fans to vote for their MVP based on the first seven rounds of Super Rugby. Here are your four options from the Gallagher Chiefs:

Lachlan Boshier (Flanker)

The 25 year-old flanker has been a turnover machine for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2020. In just five games, Boshier has made 17 turnovers, the most in the competition. In amongst his thieving of the ball, he has also scored three tries and his tackle success rate is at 90%. The Taranaki backrower has been on fire so far this season and his form has certainly warranted All Blacks selection chatter. He has teamed up well with fellow Chiefs loosies Sam Cane and Pita Gus Sowakula and as well as his impressive turnover stats, Boshier has made 27 carries, 112 meters and three clean breaks.

Aaron Cruden (first five-eighth)

The former All Blacks first five has just picked up where he left off with the Gallagher Chiefs this season. Having played two injury-riddled seasons in France’s Top 14 competition for Montpellier, Cruden has been his menacing best for the Gallagher Chiefs. In five games, he’s scored 39 points, made 33 carries, beaten 11 defenders and also made two try assists. He’s reconnected brilliantly again with Damian McKenzie and the likes of Brad Weber and Anton Lienert-Brown. Cruden looks like he is really enjoying his rugby back home in Hamilton and is enjoying Warren Gatland’s new approach.

Anton Lienert-Brown (midfielder)

He hasn’t done anything too flashy so far in Super Rugby this season, but as always, Lienert-Brown has been Mr. Reliable. He’s combined in the midfield with a number of different players like Tumua Manu, Quinn Tupaea and Alex Nankivell. The 24 year-old who recently re-signed with the Chiefs and New Zealand Rugby until 2023, has scored a couple of tries so far this season and made 48 carries. Lienert-Brown has also made seven offloads and made 149 metres. The Gallagher Chiefs backline has been incredible exciting, showcasing flare and incredible skill and Lienert-Brown has been a key contributor to some of their remarkable tries in 2020.

Brad Weber (halfback)

He’s been the form Super Rugby halfback in New Zealand this season and Weber has surely got one hand on the trophy for try of the year. Shaun Stevenson’s remarkable flick pass to the halfback in their huge win over the Waratahs was surely something to behold. Weber also has the best try celebration in our opinion as well, fins up to the janitor. To the real numbers though, and Weber has score three tries in five outings, made 29 carries, 147 metres and four clean breaks, as well as beating seven defenders and assisting in three tries. He’s been a hard man to stop and like all these Gallagher Chiefs players, we hope to see them take the field again in 2020.
